दुबई के दीरा बुर्ज मुरार इलाके में एक रिहायशी इमारत की चौथी मंजिल पर शनिवार को आग लगने से केरल के एक दंपति समेत 16 लोगों की मौत हो गई। मलप्पुरम में वेंगारा के मूल निवासी युगल रिजेश कलंगदान और उनकी पत्नी जेशी रिजेश दुबई में काम कर रहे थे। रिजेश दुबई में एक निजी ट्रैवल कंपनी में कार्यरत था और जेशी क्रिसेंट हाई स्कूल में शिक्षक था। वेंगारा में उनके रिश्तेदारों ने कहा कि रिजेश और जेशी की शादी 11 साल पहले हुई थी। रिजेश के एक रिश्तेदार और कन्नमंगलम पंचायत के वार्ड सदस्य सुब्रमण्यन ने कहा, “रिजेश 11 साल पहले दुबई पहुंचा था और जेशी करीब चार साल पहले उससे जुड़ा था।” सुब्रमण्यन ने कहा कि कागजी कार्रवाई पूरी करने के बाद शवों को वेंगारा लाया जाएगा। इमारत में काम करने वाले तमिलनाडु के दो मूल निवासी भी आग में मारे गए। सूत्रों के मुताबिक, इमारत में शनिवार दोपहर करीब 12.35 बजे आग लगी और प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों ने बताया कि इमारत से तेज धमाके की आवाज सुनाई दी, इसके बाद एक अपार्टमेंट की खिड़की से घना काला धुआं और आग की लपटें निकलीं। फायर ब्रिगेड जल्दी से पहुंच गई और लगभग 2.30 बजे आग को लगभग पूरी तरह से बुझाने में सफल रही,
