भारतीय जूनियर पुरुष हॉकी टीम ने जूनियर एशिया कप 2023 के सेमीफाइनल में कोरिया को 9-1 से रौंदकर लगातार दूसरी बार फाइनल में जगह बना ली। एशियाई टूर्नामेंट के हर मैच में अपना वर्चस्व कायम करने वाली भारतीय टीम के लिये सेमीफाइनल में सुनीत लाकड़ा, अरिजीत सिंह हुंदल, अंगद बीर सिंह, उत्तम सिंह, विष्णुकांत सिंह और शारदानंद तिवारी ने एक-एक गोल किया, जबकि बॉबी सिंह धामी ने तीन गोल दागकर जीत में बहूमूल्य योगदान दिया। इस दमदार जीत के बाद गत चैंपियन भारत जूनियर एशिया कप के फाइनल में पहुंच गया है, जहां उसका सामना मलेशिया या पाकिस्तान में से किसी एक से होगा.इस मैच में भारत का प्रदर्शन दो अर्द्धों में बंटा रहा। पहले अर्द्ध में जहां भारत ने सचेत हॉकी खेली, वहीं दूसरे हाफ में बॉबी सिंह की अगुवाई में भारतीय युवाओं का आक्रामक रूप देखने को मिला। शुरुआती क्वार्टर में चौकस हॉकी खेलते हुए भारत ने 10वें मिनट में पहला मौका बनाया। बार-बार कोरियाई सर्किल भेदने वाली भारतीय टीम को पहली सफलता 13वें मिनट में सुनीत के गोल से मिली। दूसरे क्वार्टर में भी भारत ने गेंद पर अधिकतर समय कब्जा रखा, हालांकि 19वें मिनट में अरिजीत के गोल के अलावा हाफ टाइम तक कोई खिलाड़ी गेंद को नेट में नहीं पहुंचा सका। भारत ने आधा मैच गुज़रने तक 2-0 की बढ़त बना ली थी लेकिन उसे इस बढ़त को सुरक्षित करना ज़रूरी था। बॉबी सिंह ने तीसरे क्वार्टर के पहले ही मिनट में गोल दागकर यह काम शुरू कर दिया.उन्होंने कोरियाई अर्द्ध में विपक्षी टीम के डिफेंडर से गेंद छीनी और गोलकीपर को अकेला पाकर गोल कर दिया। इसके तीन ही मिनट बाद अंगद बीर सिंह ने भी एक दर्शनीय ड्रैग शॉट खेलकर भारत की बढ़त चौगुनी कर दी। कोरिया ने 35वें मिनट में प्रहार करके वापसी की कोशिश की लेकिन शशिकुमार ने शानदार बचाव के साथ उसे खाता खोलने का मौका नहीं दिया। शशि ने 37वें मिनट में भी कोरिया का एक बेहतरीन प्रयास रोका, लेकिन पिच की दूसरी तरफ गोल की बारिश होती रही। कप्तान उत्तम सिंह ने 38वें मिनट में कोरिया के तीन डिफेंडरों और गोलकीपर को छकाकर भारत का पांचवां गोल किया, जबकि धामी ने रिवर्स शॉट खेलकर 39वें मिनट में अपना दूसरा और भारत का छठा गोल जमाया.कोरिया ने 46वें मिनट में केन्योल हुआंग के गोल से अपना खाता खोला, हालांकि यह उसे फाइनल में पहुंचाने के लिये पर्याप्त नहीं था। विष्णुकांत ने 51वें मिनट में पेनल्टी कॉर्नर पर गोल करके भारत की बढ़त 7-1 पर पहुंचा दी। कोरिया की हार यूं भी सुनिश्चित हो चुकी थी, लेकिन बॉबी सिंह धामी ने 55वें मिनट में अपनी हैट्रिक पूरी की। शारदानंद (57वां मिनट) ने मैच के आखिरी क्षणों में गोल दागकर सेमीफाइनल का ज़ोरदार अंत किया।
