कनाडा ने बुधवार को घोषणा की कि प्रत्येक सिगरेट पर स्वास्थ्य चेतावनी सीधे छपी होगी। सीएनएन द्वारा प्रकाशित एक रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, इन संदेशों में “तंबाकू का धुआं बच्चों को नुकसान पहुंचाता है”, सिगरेट ल्यूकेमिया का कारण है”, और “जहर हर कश में है” अंग्रेजी और फ्रेंच दोनों में लिखा जाएगा.कनाडा के स्वास्थ्य अधिकारियों ने एक आधिकारिक बयान में कहा, “नए तंबाकू उत्पादों की उपस्थिति, पैकेजिंग और लेबलिंग विनियम कनाडा सरकार के उन वयस्कों की मदद करने के निरंतर प्रयासों का हिस्सा होंगे जो धूम्रपान छोड़ने में मदद करते हैं, युवाओं और गैर-तंबाकू उपयोगकर्ताओं को इससे बचाने के लिए। निकोटीन की लत, और तम्बाकू की अपील को और कम करने के लिए.इस घोषणा के साथ ही कनाडा ‘वर्ल्ड नो टोबैको डे’ पर ऐसा करने वाला दुनिया का पहला देश बन गया है। विनियमन 2035 तक तंबाकू की खपत को 5% से कम करने के कनाडा के लक्ष्य का एक हिस्सा है.स्वास्थ्य अधिकारियों ने कहा कि प्रत्येक सिगरेट पर लगे लेबल धूम्रपान करने वालों के लिए चेतावनी से बचना ‘लगभग असंभव’ बना देंगे।.सीएनएन ने बताया कि कैनेडियन कैंसर सोसाइटी के वरिष्ठ नीति विश्लेषक रॉब कनिंघम ने कहा कि नया नियम एक विश्व मिसाल कायम करने वाला उपाय है जो हर उस व्यक्ति तक पहुंचेगा जो हर कश के साथ धूम्रपान करता है।
