आईपीएल के इस सीजन में महेंद्र सिंह धोनी की कप्तानी का जादू अभी तक साफतौर पर देखने को मिला है. चेन्नई सुपर किंग्स 12 मैचों में 7 जीत के साथ पॉइंट्स टेबल में अभी दूसरे स्थान पर है और उनकी प्लेऑफ में जगह लगभग पक्की मानी जा रही है. इसी बीच पूर्व भारतीय विश्व विजेता कप्तान कपिल देव ने धोनी को अब आईपीएल से संन्यास लेने की सलाह दी है.कपिल देव ने महेंद्र सिंह धोनी को लेकर फैंस के इतने लगाव को देखते हुए सन्यास लेने की सलाह दे डाली हैं, उनका कहना है कि धोनी ने खुद को एक ब्रांड के तौर पर स्थापित किया है. मैं मान सकता हूं कि आप 40 साल की उम्र में 25 साल के नहीं लग सकते. हां वैसा जोश नजर आता है, लेकिन बॉडी का मूवमेंट उस तरह का नहीं है. उनके घुटने में समस्या है, कमर में दिक्कत है, लेकिन उसके बावजूद वह गेम को काफी अच्छी तरह से कंट्रोल कर रहे हैं. धोनी की इसको लेकर जितनी सराहना की जाए वह कम है.कपिल देव ने आगे कहा कि धोनी पहले जैसा तो नहीं खेल सकते लेकिन उनमें अभी भी पहले जैसी चीज देखने को जरूर मिलती है. इस सीजन उन्होंने ऐसा अब तक करके भी दिखाया है. धोनी को अब इस सीजन के बाद आगे नहीं खेलना चाहिए, क्योंकि यदि उनके प्रदर्शन में कमी आएगी तो किसी को भी अच्छा नहीं लगेगा. उन्होंने भारतीय क्रिकेट के लिए काफी कुछ किया है और मुझे लगता है कि अब उन्हें गुड बाय कर देना चाहिए.इस सीजन के शुरू होने से पहले ही यह खबरें लगातार सामने आ रही थीं कि यह महेंद्र सिंह धोनी का आखिरी सीजन होगा. इसी पर जब लखनऊ और चेन्नई के बीच मैच के दौरान टॉस के समय धोनी से डैनी मॉरिसन ने पूछा कि आप अपने आखिरी सीजन का लुत्फ उठा रहे हैं. धोनी ने जो जवाब दिया उसने सभी को चौंका दिया. धोनी ने कहा कि यह आपने सोचा है कि यह मेरा आखिरी सीजन है, मैंने नहीं.
