चीन की सेना ने सोमवार को ऐलान कर दिया कि वह ताइवान के चारों ओर तीन दिन के व्यापक युद्ध अभ्यास करने के बाद ‘‘लड़ाई के लिए तैयार’’ है। अमेरिकी प्रतिनिधि सभा के अध्यक्ष केविन मैक्कार्थी और अमेरिका ताइवान की राष्ट्रपति साई इंग-वेन की मुलाकात के बाद चीन की ओर से यह आक्रामक कार्रवाई की गई। चीन की सेना ने पहले कहा था कि यह ‘जॉइंट स्वॉर्ड’ अभ्यास ‘‘लड़ाई की तैयारी के लिए की गई गश्त’’ है और स्वशासित ताइवान को एक चेतावनी है जिस पर चीन अपना दावा करता है। चीन की सरकारी मीडिया ने बताया कि चीनी पीपुल्स लिबरेशन आर्मी (पीएलए) के ‘ईस्टर्न थिएटर’ कमान ने ताइवान द्वीप के आसपास गश्त और अभ्यास के सभी कार्यों को सफलतापूर्वक पूरा कर लिया है। चीन ने सोमवार को कहा, ‘‘सैनिक लड़ने के लिए तैयार हैं और किसी भी समय ताइवान की स्वतंत्रता के किसी भी रूप को पूरी तरह से नष्ट करने और विदेशी हस्तक्षेप के प्रयास को रोकने के लिए दृढतापूर्वक लड़ सकते हैं।’’ यह अभ्यास पिछले साल अगस्त में चीन द्वारा किए गए अभ्यासों के समान था, जब अमेरिका की प्रतिनिधि सभा की तत्कालीन अध्यक्ष नैन्सी पेलोसी की ताइवान यात्रा के खिलाफ उसने ताइवान के आसपास समुद्र में लक्ष्यों पर मिसाइल हमले शुरू किए थे। हालांकि हमले छोटे और कम विघटनकारी थे। चीन की यह कार्रवाई ऐसे समय में की गई है जब उसके आक्रामक रवैये के बावजूद अमेरिकी प्रतिनिधि सभा के अध्यक्ष केविन मैक्कार्थी ने अमेरिका के कैलिफोर्निया में ताइवान की राष्ट्रपति साई इंग-वेन की मेजबानी की। ताइवान में अमेरिकी कांग्रेस के एक प्रतिनिधिमंडल ने भी साई के लौटने के बाद सप्ताहांत में उनसे मुलाकात की। व्हाइट हाउस राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा परिषद के प्रवक्ता जॉन किर्बी ने अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति जो बाइडन प्रशासन के इस रुख को एक बार फिर दोहराया कि साई का अमेरिका आना और कांग्रेस प्रतिनिधिमंडल की ताइवान यात्रा किसी नियम का उल्लंघन नहीं है। साई ने 2016 से 2019 के बीच छह बार अमेरिका की यात्रा की है। उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘इसका सैन्य कार्रवाई के जरिए जवाब देने का कोई मतलब नहीं बनता। ताइवान जलडमरूमध्य में किसी भी तरह के तनाव के संघर्ष में तब्दील होने की कोई वजह मौजूद नहीं है।’’ चीन ने मैक्कार्थी के साथ बैठक के तुरंत बाद साई की अमेरिकी यात्रा से जुड़े लोगों के खिलाफ यात्रा और वित्तीय प्रतिबंध लगाए हैं और सैन्य गतिविधियों में वृद्धि की है।
